With the trend towards larger, open-plan kitchen extensions, the kitchen island has become an essential feature.

It can provide extra work space, and form a boundary between the kitchen and the living/dining area. A shaped island unit can also help direct the flow of traffic away from busy hotspots.
The majority of kitchen islands incorporate seating – even the smallest space can usually accommodate an overhang of worktop and a pair of bar stools.

A kitchen island often encourages a variation in colour and material. You could be braver here with a bolder finish or colour, or perhaps a more expensive material. For a beautiful centrepiece, look to luxury worktops, from deeply veined quartz and mottled granites to exotic timber.

And don’t forget kitchen island lighting – it can turn a good-looking unit into a showstopper of a kitchen centrepiece.

Many of us are planning to use their island for cooking. The new Neff venting flex induction hob with an integrated extractor, allows you to make cooking more social.
Providing a clear view with the added freedom of no wall or island mounted hood. For the first time ever powerful extraction is integrated into your Neff hob. Steam and odours are eliminated by the powerful 690 m3h extractor. Hot air is drawn across the cook top rather than rising up in to the room. With a stylish, dishwasher safe cast-iron grate over the extractor, it conveniently doubles as a pan rest too – even when it’s on!

The ingenious Climate Control sensor automatically controls the extractor, selecting the optimum fan speed for the duration of your cooking. It will also continue to run afterwards to remove any residual odours. It’s biggest selling point compared to the traditional downdraft extractor is it’s space-saving installation. Leaving more room for pull-out drawers under the hob thanks to the clever, slimline installation of the extractor’s duct in the base cabinet.
